Winn set to hit for Texas Heat

Former Lubbock Christian University Chaparral Robbie Winn was named both the Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year in the independent professional Continental Baseball League.

Winn, who has lost over 30 pounds since leaving the Chaps, led the league in homeruns (21), runs batted in (64), and hits (61). He was third in the league in runs scored with 64 and fourth in batting with his .341 average.

Winn plays for the Texas Heat, the designated road team in the first-year league, whose other members include the Bay Area Toros from Texas City, the Tarrant County Blue Thunder from Fort Worth, and the Lewisville (TX) Lizards.

Tarrant County, which features former Lubbock Christian University pitcher Jason Aguirre, recently won the inaugural league championship, taking home the Ferguson Jenkins CBL Championship Trophy after defeating the Toros 6-3 in the finals.

Founded in 2006 and playing its inaugural season May-August 2007, the Continental Baseball League is dedicated to creating "America's Hometown Teams"-a group of professional independent baseball franchises, playing in fan-friendly facilities, providing a fun environment for families to experience professional baseball at affordable prices.

In addition to Winn and Aguirre, other former Sooner Athletic Conference baseball players include Oklahoma Baptist University's Ryan Brown (Heat), St. Gregory's University's Josh Odell (Toros), and Southern Nazarene University's Adam Yates (Lizards).

All told, 21 former NAIA baseball players are currently on Continental Baseball League rosters.
