A week after a strong showing at the Bahia Mar Resort-South Padre Island Invitational Volleyball Tournament, the Lubbock Christian University Lady Chap volleyball team is set to open the home portion of the schedule as it co-hosts the Coca-Cola Classic with Wayland Baptist University this weekend.

The Lady Chaps will play a pair of matches on both Friday and Saturday against opponents who vary in affiliation from NAIA to NCAA Division II.

On Friday, LCU will open at 2:00 pm versus NAIA Region VI rival St. Thomas University (TX), a squad competing in volleyball for just the second year. The Lady Celts head to Lubbock 0-1, having lost their season opener to Houston Baptist 0-3.

At 7:00 pm on Friday, the Lady Chaps will take on NCAA Division II Oklahoma Panhandle State University, who went 0-4 at the Lady Buff Classic, hosted by West Texas A&M University.

On Saturday, Lubbock Christian will face a pair of teams, who are opening their seasons this weekend in Region VI opponent Southwest Assemblies of God University at 11:00 am, and NCAA Division III Mary Hardin-Baylor at 3:00 pm.

A week ago, the Lady Chaps went 1-3 in South Padre as they squared off against three NAIA Top 20 opponents, beating #17 Bellevue University and falling to #9 Hastings College and #10 Savannah College of Art & Design, before dropping a match to the University of Texas - Brownsville.
