ALPINE, TX - For the first time in at least 20 years, a Lubbock Christian University women's cross country runner won an individual title as sophomore Brittani Borden-Sigle finished first in the SRSU Invitational, hosted by Sul Ross State University last Saturday.
Running neck-and-neck with El Paso Community College's Gabriela Ramos for most of the 5K race, Borden-Sigle made up about 30 yards in the last mile. She then out-kicked Ramos down the stretch to capture the two-second victory with a time of 19:44.60.
Teammate Heidi Smtih, a freshman, also finished in the Top 10 as she came in 8th with a time of 24:05.90.
As a team, the Lady Chaps finished second behind El Paso Community College, but finished ahead of Sul Ross State and College of the Southwest.
May Nsabimana finished 11th (25:20.70), Jaime Rucker finished 13th (27:21.10), and Lauren Laudig finished 17th (29:04.00) to round out the scoring for LCU.
Lubbock Christian will run again later this week as they travel up 19th street to compete in the Red Raider Jackrabbit Run, hosted by Texas Tech University on Friday, September 14th.
