Dr. Jones speaks at last year's Spiritual Renewal Week

At the beginning of this month, the members of the Lubbock Christian University Student Senate loaded up and headed for Ceta Canyon, near Amarillo, for a weekend retreat. While on retreat, Senate started discussing what we would like to see happen this school year. With a brand new executive team, a new sponsor, and many new senators, we can start this year with a completely clean slate.

The retreat started off with LCU President, Dr. Ken Jones, coming to speak to Senate about leadership. As always, Dr. Jones left us excited about the possibilities for this school year. The next day of retreat was full of brainstorming and planning. Individual committees started planning events such as Service Week, Spiritual Renewal Week, Turkey Run and Cultural Diversity week. Senate also took time to sit down and talk about the direction we would like senate to take. After much discussion, Senate came to the conclusion that we want to become a more student-oriented group. We are aiming to be a place for students to come when they need help with anything.

Since school has started we have already made progress towards becoming a more student-oriented group. We have had a few students come petition Student Senate for help, not only monetarily, but in other ways as well. With the year quickly passing by, we are working hard to keep the student body as the focus of decisions made in Senate.

We are currently actively preparing for TWIRP Week, Cultural Diversity Week, and making plans for Service week.

We have big plans for Student Senate this year!
