Henry Wadsworth Longfellow writes, "Music is the universal language of mankind." It is easy to see the awesome power music has in uniting people. As many of you know, next weekend is Master Follies. For those of you who don't know what this is; this is a time when the social clubs put on a short musical collaboration. Not only do we get to be awed by the hard work from these clubs, but we also get to be entertained by the Hosts and Hostesses. This year's Hostesses are Rynn Miller, Kendra Elyn Harrington, and Jessica Sheppard. In the following interview, The DusterTodaywill provide a small glimpse into the lives of our Hostesses:
What is your favorite part of being in Follies?
Miller: I enjoy getting to know people in rehearsals that otherwise I might not have. You always gain new friends out of the common experience together.
Harrington: Getting to choose our own music makes a huge difference in the quality of performance. We all really enjoy everything that we are doing. "Thriller" ROCKS!!
Sheppard: It would probably be the practices, as lame as that sounds. Yeah, they are long and sometimes really hard, but we are all really goofy and I always have fun at practice!
What is the hardest part of being in Follies?
Miller: Probably the same as the clubs, the practices every single day …
Harrington: Learning it all so fast! We've only got two more weeks! Plus, the rehearsal schedule is killer. I'll admit, homework is not so much getting done right now.
Sheppard: I think the hardest part is the dancing. Dah! I'm such a horrible dancer!! My Follies faces are quite lacking as well.
What has been something memorable from practices?
Miller: Every time we sing "Thriller" to each other. It is hilarious!Harrington: The other night we were dancing pretty hard and I was all out of breath. I came in real loud on one part, but it wasn't in pitch. It sounded a lot like those geese that are hanging around this time of year. We kept running the number, but when we finished the song, all of the girls busted up laughing. I just hope I can keep the "honking" in rehearsal and out of the show!
Sheppard: Well, our choreographer can sometimes be a bit "over-the-top" and one day at practice she was particularly corny with her moves and no one would say anything, but everyone was thinking it! Rynn and I would just look at each other and laugh every time she would tell us to do something! It was really funny!! Also, anytime we try to learn a dance it is pretty funny because everyone starts out flailing about and its kind of hysterical.
The DusterToday wishes the entire ensemble of Master Follies Hosts and Hostesses good luck in the 2008 show.
