Fort Worth - James Wallace surrendered just four hits over 7.2 innings pitched to lead the #7 Lubbock Christian University Chaparrals to a 7-3 win over #18 Texas Wesleyan University Sunday afternoon at LaGrave Field.

Wallace walked two and struck out nine in his outing, cruising through the middle innings. He went through 13 consecutive batters without allowing a base runner and 16 batters without allowing a hit. The three runs the Rams scored were unearned.

Rams starter Nolan Wisenhunt only lasted an inning, as he struggled with control problems. The left-handed hurler walked three and threw a pair of wild pitches, which both resulted in runs for the Chaps to open the game. Texas Wesleyan was able to tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the second with a two-out pop-up into the Texas sun that landed untouched on the left side of the diamond leading to two runs. The Chaps took the lead for good in the fourth inning with a two-out two-run home run by Chase Robertson over the leftfield wall. Ryan Burke just missed a three-run shot in the fifth inning, as he hit the ball off the left-centerfield wall for a stand-up double scoring Will Stramp and Mario Estrada for a 6-2 lead.

The Rams, who rallied in the later innings in the series' first two games, could only rally for one run the rest of the way. The one run came on a single that scored Brandon Frazier, who was aboard due to an error in the eighth inning. Jakob Cunningham relieved Wallace with two outs in the eighth and preserved the win, earning his first save of the season. Wallace earned the win on the mound and improves to 2-0 on the year. Steven DeFratus suffered the loss in relief of Wisenhunt.

The win improved the Chaps record to 9-1 and helped them take two of the three games in the series. The Chaps allowed 14 runs in the series, but only five were earned runs. The Chaps will remain on the road today (Tuesday), facing Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene.
