"Keep your face always toward the sunshine - and shadows will fall behind you" Walt Whitman.

Unless you are an education major, hang out in the library (all the cool kids do it!) or go to chapel, then you have probably not met Alyson Coats. Alyson transferred to Lubbock Christian University by way of South Plains College and hails from the tiny west Texas town of Wellman. I had the pleasure of sharing an English class with Alyson at SPC and regret that we never set foot in the same classroom at LCU.

Alyson is an Early Childhood Education major and once graduated plans to stay in the Lubbock area and teach children. Children are a major part of Alyson's life.

Her time spent at LCU has been some of the best. When asked about her favorite class, only Alyson would pick Methods. "I hate to admit it … but I loved methods -- some of the people in my classes became my best friends and I made memories that will last a lifetime." Well said, Alyson.

Believe it or not, Alyson enjoyed chapel and her favorite song was "It Is Well." When talking about the song, Alyson said "it is a reminder that no matter what comes my way in life … my God is always there to lift me up."

Leaving LCU for good will be difficult, but Alyson says she's "going to miss all the professors in the education department --- they have been so helpful and encouraging during (my) time here at LCU." Before leaving for good, though, Alyson leaves this piece of advice for incoming freshman: "Enjoy your time in college --- it goes by too quickly! Have fun, get out and meet people, and try to do some homework!"

When not schooling and student teaching, Alyson enjoys reading, playing a myriad sports, and being with family and friends. Of all the people Alyson has met in her life the person she admires most is her mother. "She is the strongest and most loving person in the world -- she is everything that I hope to be one day," Alyson said of her mother.

The Whitman quote from above is Alyson's favorite quote, and a fitting way to end her LCU career. Alyson, best of luck to you in your future endeavors. May the good Lord bless you in all you do!
