The activities board of Texas Tech University hosted its third annual "Rock the Plaza" last weekend with great success. The outdoor event held host to several hundred students and adults to enjoy the great weather and music.
Three bands which made a stop on their respective tours to perform at Rock the Plaza were "My American Heart," "Mayday Parade," and "The Providence." These bands would be categorized under the genre of emo-rock. Needless to say, it is hard for any small band that is not playing country music to get a large amount of involvement and interest here in Lubbock. Each of the bands which performed had a quality sound and great stage energy but the energy of the crowd was not at the same level. These bands are largely popular in following but mainly on the east coast.
"Mayday Parade's" first EP sold over 20,000 copies upon release last year. While most of the fans seemed interested in the music being played, it appeared most were unfamiliar with the music, at least for now. Hopefully events such as this one will help broaden the music taste of the citizens of Lubbock.
Admittance to the concert was free as well as food and beverages that were provided.
