Former Chaps Making Pro Debuts
Four 2008 standouts being new seasons
|
With several leagues around Minor League Baseball opening up last week, here is a look at some of the players from this past season's Lubbock Christian University baseball team that are making news in affiliated baseball.
Pitchers Chris Holguin and Gary Poynter have yet to pitch. Holguin is still training in Dunedin, Fla. at the Toronto Blue Jays complex, while Poynter is on the opening day roster of the Peoria Padres in the Arizona Rookie League. The Padres opened their season Sunday with a 5-2 win over the Mariners Arizona League affiliate, which also offices out of the same Peoria complex.
Players seeing action are Jarred Bogany and Buck Britton, and each are playing with affiliates in the Class A - Appalachian League. Bogany, playing with the Johnson City (Tenn.) Cardinals, is co-leading the team in hits (6) and total bases (10) through the team's first six games. He opened the season 2-for-5 in his debut and blasted a solo home run. The Cardinals are 4-2 to start the season. Britton is with the Bluefield (W.Va.) Orioles and is batting .182 in five games. He went 0-for-3 Saturday, but picked up his first run-batted-in of the season against the Princeton Rays. The Baby Birds are 2-4 to start the season.
